Heavenly Chocolate Custard Recipe

Chocolate custard is a decadent dessert made with a combination of eggs, milk, sugar, and chocolate. It is a rich, creamy, and velvety treat that is a favorite among chocolate lovers. The history of chocolate custard dates back to the 19th century, when it was first created in France. Since then, it has become popular around the world, with different variations of the recipe being made in many different countries.


  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 4 ounces of semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Optional: whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or cocoa powder for garnish


Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) pie plate with butter or cooking spray and set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Custard

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Slowly add the milk, whisking constantly, until all the ingredients are combined. Set aside.

Step 3: Melt the Chocolate

In a double boiler or a heat-proof bowl over a pot of simmering water, melt the chocolate, stirring constantly until it is completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 4: Combine the Ingredients

Add the melted chocolate and the vanilla extract to the egg mixture and whisk until combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared pie plate.

Step 5: Bake the Custard

Bake the custard for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

Garnish the custard with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or cocoa powder, if desired. Serve the custard warm or chilled.
